Eat , Pray , Love book review / Warning....I hated it!

Eat, Pray, LoveEat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

I loathed this book. In my opinion, it was horrible. I loved the movie which is focused on a womans journey to find herself. The book was so heavily advertised as the same thing, so i decided to read it. I MADE my self listen to the audio just to say i finished it. But i really hated it. The only few, very few parts i liked was the little bits about herself and what she was doing. But most of this book is a complete history of each country she goes to, WAY MORE than I ever wanted to know. Then EVERYONE you meet she gives you their complete story. Literally, I drove for 25 minutes hearing about the history of wars in Bali! I think the only reason this book got popular is becuz of the advertising and so everyone was curious to see what the hoopla was about. Well, there is NO hoopla! LOL It was a total waster of time. Its funny, cuz now that i made it through the book, I have talked to others who have read it and they didnt like it either. I hear comments like the writing is really bad, it is so boring!

I have renamed the book, for the "eat" part, it should've been "Italy, a history"
for the "pray" part, it should've been "Everything and anything you want to know about meditation and yoga"
for the "love" part, it should've been "All about the history of Bali and its healers!

I will NEVER buy another book by this woman. Also, I was very disappointed to find out that she was paid to go on this trip and write a book about it. All the advertising seems to lead you to believe, she went on this incredible life changing journey and becuz it was so life changing she decided to write about it. NOT TRUE. It was planned all along, they even gave her an advance so she could have the money. After u are fooled into reading the book, u find this out.

If anyone is looking for a great inspiring memoir, read "The Middle Place" by Kelly Corrigan. It will change ur life and inspire you to cherish your life.

I haven't read this one yet but it's on my 2011 TBR list. I actually read the sequel, Committed first (why? no idea hahaha) and didn't like it. I LOVED the movie but who knows what I'll think about the book.
